The AZ of Greek Island Hopping
Why holiday on a Greek island when you can plan a trip that includes visits to many? Moving takes a little planning, but you can choose from cruise ships, ferries, yacht charter and travel. Cyclades
Amorgos
Rugged Amorgos, the most easterly of the Cyclades islands, has beautiful sandy beaches, rugged coastline, bays of peace and tranquility and the magnificent monastery Hozoviotissa. Infrastructure Tourism is rudimentary that this makes for a tranquil charm of return.
Delos
First inhabited in 3000 BC, this small island was the religious and commercial center of ancient Greece. There are no towns or housing here, just quiet and a sense of history in the archaeological ruins.
Folegandros
This small, beautiful island has plenty of accommodation. Its busy port Karavostassi presents a wide selection of restaurants and hotels, while passenger and motorcycles are prohibited on the edge of the cliff village of Hora.
Mykonos
This cosmopolitan island, a mecca for expensive trips, with Cycladic architecture single, bare hills, narrow alleys and streets and red-roofed churches, is all the Greek islands are famous for.
Naxos
Zeus on Mount towers this island, relatively quiet and cozy, which is green and fertile. Agricultural Pretty villages are right to experience life on the island of sampling includes fresh produce, wines and olive oils.
Paros
In the main ferry run and popular with all travelers, Paros has picturesque inland villages, a busy main port city and some beautiful beaches, especially in the north around the fishing village of Naoussa.
Santorini
Most popular of Greek islands. From the archaeological wonders of Akrotiri, a town preserved in volcanic ash, their outcrops in domestic architecture and charming white wash Santorini is one of the most spectacular islands in the world.
Sifnos
This mountainous island, about a 3 hour ferry from Piraeus, is charming valleys fertile and medieval architecture, a fine archaeological museum and quiet sandy beaches. A wide range of hotels, bars and shops to serve visitors to the island.
Syros
The administrative center of the Cyclades, Syros has a port and shipyard, beautiful beaches, attractive architecture and many churches and museums. The interior of the island has lots of fruits and vegetables.
Tinos
The third largest island of the Cyclades, 30 minute ferry ride from Mykonos, Tinos is a major destination for religious pilgrims. The inland villages located on mountain slopes, are connected by a network of walking trails.
Crete
The largest of the Greek islands, Crete mountain has it all, including the cities bustling, idyllic rural villages, olive groves, fruit and vegetables, sandy beaches, ancient ruins and a world-class archaeological museum.
Dodecanese
Rhodes
Green and mountainous, Rhodes is known for its beauty natural, good architecture, and its cosmopolitan charm. The most popular of the Dodecanese islands, and its great variety of architectural treasures and top museums attract visitors throughout the year.
Kos
This fascinating island is rich in Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Venetian archeology and agricultural interior is perfect for walking cycling. There are daily ferries to and from Piraeus, and Turkey is only a short boat ride away.
Ionian
Corfu
People Corfu, the greenest of the Greek islands, has ancient ruins, castles and distinctive Italianate architecture in the town of Corfu. The old fort (Paleo Frourio) is the location of a sound and light show in summer.
Kefalonia
Known as the filming location of Captain Corelli's Mandolin, this rocky island, with its pine forests and many species of wild flowers and herbs, is becoming a popular destination. Loggerhead turtles nest on the beaches of Kefalonia.
Northeast Aegean
Chios
A few miles off the coast of Turkey in the Aegean, Chios has many churches and monasteries, medieval villages and ancient monuments dating from the period in Macedonian, Roman, Greek and Turkish domination. From the beautiful beaches and coves to the mountains and traditional villages, the island is a delight to explore.
Lesbos
The third largest island in the Greek language is a good budget destination with idyllic beaches, fascinating villages, hot springs and a variety flora and fauna. Primarily agricultural, the provincial economy is based on olive oil and ouzo.
Saronic Gulf
Aegina
A beginner Large Experience of the Greek island, Aegina is an ideal day trip by ferry from Athens. A state of the city in ancient times, be sure to visit the ruins of Paleohora, one of the best preserved ancient Greek temples.
Angistri
Intimate beaches are the hallmark of this small island near Aegina. But there interesting culture and fishing part of the island is off the beaten tourist path.
Hydra
Head for the restaurants and cafes facing the sea of Hydra In this maritime destination city famous for great Greek atmosphere. Walk and see the old sea captain mansions, and check out some of the hundreds of ancient churches.
Poros
Handy to Athens, the occupied town of Poros is an island joined to the island of Poros by a causeway. The island is home to the scant remains of the Temple of Poseidon, but beaches not so good.
Spetses
Famous for its beaches and nightlife, Spetses also has a port known for its construction industry of wooden boats. The main square of the city, the Dapia, has lots of interesting restaurants, while in the busy port can view boatbuilders at work.
